Demand Free Software
Do not just demand that this program run to your requirements, instead, demand that this program be free. Demand the right to run the program as you wish, demand the right to tinker with the code so that it will fit your needs, demand the right to share the program with other people and demand the right to publish any improvements. Anything less than that will subject you to the proprietor.
