I’ve been wanting to try Arch Linux for quite some time now. They seem to have a similar aesthetic to Gentoo in that the main mission of Arch is to build your operating system from the ground up.

After a few months of using it, I finally feel I am confident enough to write a piece about one of the best, and I MEAN best, linux distros ever, archlinux.

Most of the general complaints I’ve ever seen aimed at the Autotools are ultimately associated with Automake, in the final analysis. The reason for this is simple: Automake provides the highest level of abstraction over the build system. This high level of abstraction is both apparent, and actual.

One of the many things the KDE developers did right in 4.x (currently 4.7) is the notification system. By far, this system is the cleanest and most flexible of nearly every desktop I have used. But most users don’t realize just how flexible this system is simply because they never bother to look into the configuration options available. It’s time that oversight is corrected.

Welcome to part 5, the final article in our little series on the KDE 4.3 System Settings control panel. I first off want to thank the KDE devs for creating such a great desktop environment (DE) and for simplifying the control panel (now known as "System Settings"). The last time I had to do an article series like this, it took me 10 articles and nearly a month to pull it off.

"For years now, industry restrictions and tightening profit margins have forced PC manufacturers to shy away from offering productivity software on their new PCs," stated Eugene Chang, product manager for Everex. "Our main focus was to build a no-compromise, back-to-school PC with all the software applications a typical student would require," Chang said.

Android is a great little mobile operating system for the modern smartphone, but it can feel a little bewildering and complex to the newcomer.

KahelOS is essentially a remastered version of Arch Linux. Arch Linux has always had a reputation as being somewhat inaccessible to average desktop users, and KahelOS is an attempt to make Arch Linux more accessible to more people.

There's no dearth of Linux distributions for desktop users or even for running high availability servers. But if you are a do-it-yourself computer user, your choice of Linux distros is fairly limited. You can build Linux from scratch with Linux from Scratch or compile your own set of packages with Gentoo.
