Mozilla is updating its Firefox Web browser with new technology that is targeted at making the open source browser more stable. The Firefox 3.6.4 release also includes fixes for four critical security vulnerabilities.

Mozilla Corp. yesterday patched 10 vulnerabilities, half of them marked "critical," in its open-source browser as it updated Firefox to Version 2.0.0.13. The new Mozilla Messaging Inc. spin-off, however, was not able to provide a matching update to its Thunderbird e-mail client, which shares five of the Firefox flaws that were fixed.

Mozilla's Firefox 3.5.1 browser is now out with fixes for one critical zero-day vulnerability that first became public earlier this week.

Mozilla is out this week with Firefox 3.5.9 and 3.0.19 updates, fixing multiple security vulnerabilities in the open source Web browser's two branches, while announcing that the older of the two branches is being phased out.

According to the developers, the Firefox updates address a total of twelve issues, including 9 critical security bugs, one high-risk and a moderate XSS hazard. Many of the issues could potentially lead to the remote execution of arbitrary code on a victim's system.

Mozilla has had a tough week. Yesterday they fixed a security problem in Thunderbird by releasing version 1.5.0.12 late yesterday. This followed on the heels of updates to Firefox, to a Firefox Google toolbar extension, and to the SeaMonkey web application suite -- all within the last six days.

Mozilla today released Firefox 2.0.0.5, the latest update to the group's flagship browser. The update patches eight security vulnerabilities, three of them "critical" and two "high," the group said.
