Gnome Shell is the new core user interface for Gnome 3 which provides switching windows and applications but you've probably already heard of it by now so I'll skip the introduction.

The author used SurveyMonkey to create a somewhat more in-depth questionnaire around the issues raised by Richard Stallman's calls for some sort of content control on Planet GNOME and the subsequent question of whether it's time for the GNOME project to examine its relationship with the GNU project.

Gnome 2.30 was released a few days ago which means the next version will be (or should be) Gnome 3 (which will come with Gnome Shell). I recently came across some Notification Area mockups which might become reality.

Gnome 3 might start using monochrome colors in the System Status Area - Ubuntu style (or we could call it Mac OSX style):

GNOME Shell is a new completely revamped user interface for GNOME. GNOME Shell brings a new window manager called Mutter which is a combination of Metacity and Clutter. This reportedly makes Compiz unnecessary(and incompatible too).

There is an air of disquiet again on Planet GNOME - and once again the reason behind it is the way the site is administered.
