Fusion Linux is a (desktop) Linux distribution derived from Fedora, with some inspiration from Linux Mint and Crunchbang, a Linux distribution based on Debian. It is developed by Valent Turkovic, a Fiber optics and Networking Engineer from Croatia. This release, Fusion Linux 14, aka Thorium, is the project’s second stable release.

Fedora 7.0 is the latest community-based Linux release from Red Hat. Fedora and Novell's OpenSuse are Ubuntu Linux's two chief "competitors". All three Linux distros are free downloads; all have vibrant online communities where you can go for tips, troubleshooting and advice.

I use Linux every day and more often than not, it's Fedora based. The first linux distro I tried was Red Hat 5 and I still remember installing it multiple times in one day in order to gain a better understanding of Red Hat Linux. I stayed with Red Hat Linux right up until the last free version Red Hat 9.

The major Linux distributors have released kernel updates to close a critical security vulnerability, a pre-release version of Fedora 12 was made available and Debian wants more structured release cycles.

The final and stable version of Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackalope" is about to be unleashed.

The second alpha version of openSUSE 11.0 was launched and it is available for download and testing. Althoughit is just a development release, this version comes packed with some important improvements.

Two of my favorite Debian based distributions, and one RPM based distribution that uses Debian-like packaging tools are in their testing cycles right now.

This marks the first official and stable release of the Kongoni GNU/Linux distribution after several development releases. Kongoni is a fully free African GNU/Linux distribution based on Slackware with significant inspiration from the BSD-Unix architectures.

The stable repositories of Arch and PCLinuxOS have latest Gimp (2.4.0) just two days after its release. The remaining ones including Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Mandriva all have a previous version in their official stable repositories. This indicates how frequently these distributions update their repositories with latest software.
