Debian testing "Wheezy" is to be frozen on 30th June in preparation for the subsequent release of the stable Debian 7.0 Wheezy sometime down the road. If you want something included, better do it now.

The Debian release team recently announced the current status of the next Debian release Squeeze. Based on past experiences there will be at least 4 months needed after the freeze to release the next stable version.

"The release of Debian that follows Lenny has been named. In keeping with the Toy Story theme, the codename will be Squeeze (a 'three-eyed space alien')..."

Now that a release candidate of the installer has been uploaded and tested, a few issues have been identified and was binNMUed today. This should turn into RC2 by the end of the week. This means we are able to begin the final preparations for a release of Debian 6.0 -- "Squeeze".

The Debian release team are sounding the alarm: With only one month left before the planned release freeze, the number of critical bugs in Debian 6.0 Squeeze is still far too high to freeze development.

Icinga is an enterprise grade open source monitoring system which keeps watch over networks and any conceivable network resource, notifies the user of errors and recoveries and generates performance data for reporting. It is a fork of Nagios.

One rather old laptop and one server were the test objects for this howto. Both systems do not have any RAID devices and use a simple partition scheme from a default basic Lenny install.
