Is Ubuntu becoming the generic Linux distro?

http://blogs.zdnet.com

Over the past year or so I’ve noticed an increasing number of newbies (a term which I use affectionately) interested in taking Linux for a spin - for example, the number or emails I’m getting on the subject from zero a year ago to several dozen a week. Choosing an XFCE-based distro

http://beranger.org

Choosing an XFCE-based distro is not an easy task, because not all the users are the same...As you can rarely stick the "one size fits all" label to a Linux distro, I don't even try to recommend one XFCE-enabled distro or another. I will just write down a few notes on a selective list of distributions.
