When you are using a FTP server you can connect using either Active or Passive connections. Each has advantages and disadvantages. When you set up FTP, in this example using VSFTPD, you need to make this connection decision. Active connections are safest for the server but at times may not work for some clients.

New Themes For Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala
One thing that I look forward to each time a new distro is released is the artwork, theme and overall graphical setup of each distro. As Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala matures we are getting closer and closer to seeing the default desktop, theme, splash screen and other graphical enhancements.

Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Alpha 4 Released - See What's New
The Ubuntu development team unleashed the fourth alpha version of the upcoming Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) operating system, which is scheduled for release in late October this year. In this release, Firefox 3.5 replaced the old Firefox 3.0 as the default web browser! The actual version of Mozilla Firefox in Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Alpha 4 is 3.5.2.

Karmic’s New Boot & Login Screen
he Ubuntu design team have published mock-ups of the proposed Ubuntu 9.10 Boot and GDM screens.
In a post on the Ubuntu-art mailing list, Mat Tomaszewski revealed the proposed designs, and confirmed the plan for Ubuntu to use a new boot-screen manager, replacing Usplash with Xsplash.
