The bad guys are worried - did we win?
Recently two pieces of first class anti-free software diatribe hit the headlines. The first is Microsoft’s “please don’t use OpenOffice.org” video and the second is Steve Jobs’ anti-Android rant. Both are pretty shallow attempts at deflection and have been rightly called out as actually endorsing the subject of the attack as a valid opponent.

Intellectual Ventures and Other Microsoft-affiliated Groups Are Poisoning Linux With Patents

Dark horse Attachmate buys Novell, Microsoft helps
Attachmate has agreed to acquire Novell for $6.10 per share in cash. Attachmate, which got its start as a terminal emulation company in 1982, is privately held. Its primary owners are the private equity firms Francisco Partners, Golden Gate Capital and Thoma Bravo.

What Microsoft Linux Would Mean
My son who is a Linux user and advocate and I had this conversation about five years ago. I think that it was even before Microsoft and Novell struck a deal. It was pre-Vista because we thought that Microsoft’s next OS could be Linux-based. We thought that it would happen, but are still waiting.
