The Future of Publishing with Linux Magazines

http://www.osweekly.com

Not too long ago, I subscribed to a Linux magazine for beginners called Tux. Fantastic magazine, but the last I heard they were "headed out," so to speak, due largely to a lack of funding. Newest FSF board member Hill discusses free software goals

http://www.linux.com

"I'm a bit of a rebel," Benjamin Mako Hill says, "with rather too many causes." Best known for his many roles in Debian, Hill is also a member of the Ubuntu Community Council, an advisor to One Laptop Per Child, a director of Software Freedom International, and the originator of several free software projects -- to say nothing of an active voice for the Free Culture Movement, and the occasional or

July 11, 2007, will mark the third-annual global "Fair Use Day," but chances are this is the first you've heard of it. Started back in 2005, "Fair Use Day" (project website) was created by Eric Clifford to raise awareness of the shifting balance in copyright laws around the world.

ClueNet, an open-source community offering free shells and other linux-related services

http://cluenet.org

The Internet has always been a place for corroboration and communication, but most Internet communities have degraded substantially. There are large numbers of communities devoted exclusively to sexual talk, and others that focus on illegal activities such as attacking servers or piracy. Here and there, good communities spring up and foster information exchange as well as general chatting.

Can Linux Adoption Ever be Accurately Gauged?

http://itmanagement.earthweb.com

Determining usage and growth of Free software has always been a challenge. For over a decade, arguments have been held – sometimes flamewars – whose central point was the usage level of software that is freely distributed. Python Magazine Lives

http://m0j0.wordpress.com

I have a confession to make: For the past 6 weeks, I’ve been leading a secret double life. By day, I’m a mild mannered system/network/database admin in academia. I also write some PHP, Perl, and Python code. By night, however, I’m an author and editor. My latest project is bigger than most. In fact, it’s an entire magazine. Devoted to Python.

Maybe it will be true if all proprietary vendors hold hands and wish it so

http://news.com.com

I stumbled across this article in the International Herald Tribune today and was shocked by how off such an otherwise reputable publication could be. The general tone of the article was that open source is struggling to grow. I'm not sure how 100 percent year-over-year growth for the prominent commercial open-source start-ups connotes "struggling," but....
