http://www.inatux.com

... this Firefox version, carries the code name "Namoroka" Alpha 1, and it is also currently referred to as Firefox.next. And like other Firefox Alphas, it does not bare the Firefox logo. Monopoly and Monocrisy

http://boycottnovell.com

THERE was a degree of hostility between Tomboy and Gnote. Part of it was to do with licensing issues (one complainer was Jo Shields), but as the following shows nicely, it would be hypocritical for Mono proponents to whine about this from now on.

Taking FOSS Security Seriously

http://www.technewsworld.com

Developers of open source software projects should be just as concerned about security as anyone developing a proprietary app. However, the nature of the two development processes can be very different at times, and debate still rages about which is inherently more secure -- a secret code kept by a company, or a public one that all eyes can see.

"Peter Seibel has given me a sneak peek at his new book Coders at Work. Allow me to beat my colleague Xach to the punch by saying This book is dead sexy. When it comes out, you should definitely get a copy. Seibel is a good writer and a good programmer, and I'm a big fan of his last book Practical Common Lisp. You should get that book too.

Anybody up to writing good directory software?

Tue, 2007-02-20 11:17 — David Jonathan

From the very start, directories have served a very useful purpose on the Internet. (One I find useful for example is Free Web Directory). News sites can also be considered directories: they index and categorize news stories! What about categorizing software? In the open source world you get Savannah, SourceForge, Freshmeat; there are still, believe it or not, shareware and freeware directories like FileBuzz, PCWin Download Center and Freeware Downloads (although you need to be careful, as they are not like their free-as-in-freedom counterparts).

Is better education the key to finding better software?

Sat, 2007-03-03 03:25 — Edward Russel

About Jonathon's article Anybody Up To Writing Good Directory Software?, it's clear that the topic of software directories is very hot. Most of what you find on Google, however, are not pointing to free and open soruce software -- or worse, they mix the two. Examples of such sites are Freeware Downloads and Shareware Download, which simply don't focus on "free as in freedom", and still can be used as good free software directories.
