I’ve used a lot of music players over the years. Pretty much they all take the same tact on organizing your music – you have a library and you have playlists. Pretty cut and dry. But today I came across a music player, Aqualung, that went about things a bit differently.

How To Create a Public Share on Samba
The goal of this tutorial is to show you how to set up a public share on your Samba server that can be used by everyone on your network with all rights. This will enable everyone on a Windows machine to access this without a password. Of course, this has security implications but it is a good way to get something working.

Task managers for the console
I’ve already pointed out a few note-taking, organizer-type applications — hnb is my favorite, probably followed by vimwiki; but that’s certainly not the end of the list. You’ll need a list, just to keep track of all the programs you can use to make lists.

Review: jQuery Cookbook
I love jQuery. It's not like there aren't other JavaScript libraries out there, but jQuery was the first I became involved with and so far, it's solved every web design problem I've encountered. Of course, I usually go searching for a jQuery solution on the web when I have such a problem. That's why I was looking forward to O'Reilly's jQuery Cookbook.

This tutorial shows how to set up a standalone storage server on Ubuntu 9.10. Instead of NFS, I will use GlusterFS here. The client system will be able to access the storage as if it was a local filesystem. GlusterFS is a clustered file-system capable of scaling to several peta-bytes.

Anybody up to writing good directory software?
Tue, 2007-02-20 11:17 — David JonathanFrom the very start, directories have served a very useful purpose on the Internet. (One I find useful for example is Free Web Directory). News sites can also be considered directories: they index and categorize news stories! What about categorizing software? In the open source world you get Savannah, SourceForge, Freshmeat; there are still, believe it or not, shareware and freeware directories like FileBuzz, PCWin Download Center and Freeware Downloads (although you need to be careful, as they are not like their free-as-in-freedom counterparts).
Is better education the key to finding better software?
Sat, 2007-03-03 03:25 — Edward RusselAbout Jonathon's article Anybody Up To Writing Good Directory Software?, it's clear that the topic of software directories is very hot. Most of what you find on Google, however, are not pointing to free and open soruce software -- or worse, they mix the two. Examples of such sites are Freeware Downloads and Shareware Download, which simply don't focus on "free as in freedom", and still can be used as good free software directories.
