The Ubuntu community Docs describe in detail how to setup Ubuntu to use iPhone. It includes setting up ssh on iPhone and the doing a ssh login from the computer. The Doc also explains how to setup Amaroc and GTKPod and configure it for easy usage.
This will only work with phones having 1.11 or 1.12 firmware version. Unlocked phones might not work.

One of the most popular shells, bash - Bourne Again SHell, uses GNU’s Readline library for reading the command line.
