Toorox

http://lwn.net

I was very excited when I read the release announcement for a new Linux distribution based on Gentoo Linux. I used Gentoo for several years and admire Sabayon Linux, so I was quite anxious to test another derivative. After all the testing I was pleased to find that Toorox 06.2009 delivers a true Gentoo experience but is much easier to install and use.

HadoopDB reconciles SQL with Map/Reduce

http://www.h-online.com

Opponents of SQL had their hands strengthened when Google's SQL-free technique, "Map/Reduce", showed it could search databases measured in petabytes. They look on relational databases as antiquated, a technique that can't cope with today's quantities of data or meet the requirements of full-text searching. Rather than relations, they rely on key-value pairs.

Greasemonkey for beginners

http://tuxradar.com

However, it doesn't do anything in and of itself: what it does is to enable you to run scripts, either by other people or by yourself, which will alter the way webpages look and function.
