Feeling Zen Yet?
It all started back in November, my Linux addiction that is. Being now that it’s August, I’ve officially been using Linux for 10 months. It feels like a long time, and I’ve learned a lot. For the past 6 months, I’ve been using it as my main OS. In fact, the company I work at runs entirely on Linux which can be heavily attributed to it’s success, but let’s not go there.

easy peasy full system backup
You know how when someone accidentally deletes their files or their hard drive crashes or some other apocalyptic event occurs, the first thing people ask is “where is your backup”? Of course, we’ve all seen it (*ahem* been there :/ ). It’s a bit unintuitive, because backups have no equivalent in the real world. If you drive your car into a lake, there’s no way to get it back.

Phil Whitehouse of BT has written an article with twelve guidelines to build an open source community: "Some might say that open source communities "just happen", and that they operate on intuition and unwritten social rules, but this logic overlooks the vast quantity of open source projects that fail."

What Linux Needs to do to go Mainstream - Part 1
The news from LinuxWorld got me psyched to check out Linux again to see what has changed in the year or so since I last experimented with the alternative OS. On a few occasions over the years, I’ve tried some various flavors of Linux.

The community Linux impact
A recent talk I led about community Linux and Ubuntu in the enterprise at LinuxWorld generated some discussion over at Slashdot. I can’t say that I completely agree with the headline, ‘Paid support not critical for Linux adoption.’ Well, not critical to some adoption.

Hearing Postponed on Gifting York- New Date Sept. 16 [or never?]
It will not surprise you to learn that there has been another postponement of the hearing on SCO's desire to give some unearned money to York Capital Management. If you recall, SCO claimed it felt a moral impulse to pay them even though it doesn't have to. The new date in bankruptcy court for that hearing will be September 16. Or never.

One summer project that I undertook was checking out Ubuntu, a Linux distro that promises to make the Linux operating system user-friendly for us mere mortals. I was especially prodded to give it a spin after Free Range gave it a friendly nod.
