Note that I'm not giving google much advance warning: I mentioned few
of those issues on irc, but they seemed not welcome there. And purpose
of security system of t-mobile g1 is not to protect owner from evil
attacker; rather it prevents owner from using his phone. g1, as
shipped, will not for example allow connecting your notebook to the
internet.

Tip: using lshw to fecth hardware information
How many times have you searched in several places for information about your hardware ? This happens often when we are asking for a solution to some problem in a forum. The first thing you’re asked to do is tell what your hardware specs are. Instead of going through all the proc filesystem gathering the information, I find the ls* family of tools very useful.

Version Control For Beginners: Getting Started With Subversion
Subversion is a version control system: It keeps a record of changes over the lifetime of a file, allowing you to revert to an earlier version at will. It's particularly useful for code projects, but it can handle, and be useful for, pretty much any type of file (e.g., for tutorials!). It's available as a package for most Linux distros, or as source from the web site.

Science and KDE: rkward
I try to use FOSS extensively for my scientific work. In fact, when possible, I use only FOSS tools. Among these there is the R programming language. It’s a Free implementation of the S-plus language, and it’s mainly aimed at statistics and mathematics. As the people who read my scientific posts know, I don’t like R much. But sometimes it’s the only alternative.

Mirror Your Web Site With rsync On Fedora 10
This tutorial shows how you can mirror your web site from your main web server to a backup server (both running Fedora 10) that can take over if the main server fails. We use the tool rsync for this, and we make it run through a cron job that checks every x minutes if there is something to update on the mirror. Thus your backup server should usually be up to date if it has to take over.

LCA: Catching up with X.org
For years, linux.conf.au has been one of the best places to go to catch up with the state of the X Window System; the 2009 event was no exception. There was a big difference this time around, though. X talks have typically been all about the great changes which are coming in the near future.

Is Ubuntu Server ready for enterprise class computing? Part 1
I know that a great percentage of you may feel otherwise but coming from a data storage background, I must say, I was a bit disappointed with Canonical’s Ubuntu Server 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex). Please do not misundertand me, I praise Canonical for all that they had accomplished. While my distro of choice may not be Ubuntu, my wife uses it with no troubles at all.

Emacs mode for machine-readable copyright files !
"Quite a fair amount of time has flown since my decision to implement an emacs mode for the proposed machine-readable format for debian/copyright files. A have to admit that I had left that sleeping for quite a long while. But I took my courage, and rewrote nearly everything I had done so far. I'm quite happy with the results, to be truthful. The debian-mr-copyright-mode features: ..."

Speedy and efficient email use with Gnus and Emacs
"Out of the box Gnus might not be too bad speed-wise, but once you’ve added the odd tweak (or 50) you’ll notice it taking a few seconds to open a buffer of, say, 400 threaded emails. For me that’s bare-able but I can see why others might become frustrated (especially coming from Mutt for instance). Below are some tips on how to make things much easier when dealing with a lot of mail..."
