Google Chrome, the latest open source browser developed by the almighty Google is already out. It is currently in Beta and is only available for Windows, as Linux and Mac OS X versions are still under development. I have tried Chrome today and here are my initial impressions.

Possibly, too, you have cursed the limited search information available in graphical interfaces like Synaptic, which does not extend much beyond searching for the description, name, versions, and dependencies.

I’ve been using Firefox’s fullscreen mode on my Eee PC to get the maximum amount of vertical screen space possible. I noticed that the screen flickers black briefly whenever a tooltip or right click menu is displayed. All fullscreen applications seem to be affected. This bug can be worked around by changing an advanced Compiz setting to turn off the unredirecting of fullscreen windows.

Sharing files with wdfs and FUSE

I move from computer to computer constantly -- desktops, laptops, testing machines -- and rather than worry about synchronizing the assorted hard disks content, I prefer to keep one central copy of my documents that I can access anywhere. I do that using wdfs, the WebDAV file system for FUSE.

Surround sound fixing in Ubuntu

I obtained a rather small nice little machine the other day, and having never heard one of my DVDs in full surround sound, I decided to turn this box into a DVD player. I do have a DVD player, but it only has DTS output for surround sound and my speaker system has 3 jacks. So, first of all the easy bit. Modify pulse audio.

Trying out LXDE

This is my first time to try out LXDE. I am curious about it and there are certain things that I am glad are in LXDE. For one thing, Alt+F2 also pops up a run dialog box so I could type the name of the application I want to run. There are even suggestions as to what I could run when I typed the first how many letters of the application’s name.
