http://www.linux-magazine.com

The latest Debian Project News recently announced a code freeze in preparation for a new release by the end of 2010. It's a sign of the times that the news went mostly unreported. Which makes me wonder: What is Debian's role today?

Getting Started with Ubuntu 10.04 Second Edition released

http://www.ubuntugeek.com

Just a quick heads up, we released the Second Edition of the Ubuntu Manual for Lucid yesterday to coincide with the point release for 10.04 LTS. Not much has changed from the first edition, apart from over 300 bug fixes thanks to the competition we ran a couple of months ago.

Ubuntu 8.04 to 10.04 - reader provides the 'right' switch, but why is this even an issue?

http://insidesocal.com

Writing about Ubuntu even a little critically brings out two types of people: those who get their fanboy bat out to beat the crap out of me and those who actually have solutions to the problems I present. Truthfully, I don't mind the fanboy factor; at least you're reading. And I did get help with my Ubuntu 8.04 to 10.04 upgrade problem.

KDE 4.5, through my GNOME eyes.

http://openattitude.com

So I’ve had a play with the KDE 4.5 Live CD and thought I’d share my first impressions, coloured by the fact that I’m currently using the GNOME desktop environment on my installation of Linux Mint.

Planning for a Revolution: Call to Designers

http://anditosan.blogspot.com

Working on design for the openSUSE project is indeed a hard thing to do. I am not a Novell or openSUSE employee. I do what I do with my free time, which will be drastically reduced soon, because the school year is starting at the end of the month.

Open source is fundamentally incapable of handling user interfaces

http://www.landley.net

...because any time "shut up and show me the code" is not the correct response to the problem at hand (which it isn't for the touchy-feely "usability" stuff), the open source development model melts down into one of three distinct failure modes...

N-imal?

http://www.markshuttleworth.com

Oh yes, it's that time of year again, when numerate pollsters make nasal proclamations about the naming of the next next version of Ubuntu. When gazers of balls crystal provide nifty suggestions for new new features and, of course, suitable nomenclature to match.

Is Linux the computing Tower of Babel?

http://it.toolbox.com

In the computing world there are many different languages. All these languages have a single purpose. To make the hardware do what we want. It gives a very powerful rush when we realise that, for the first time, we have been able to command and bend to our will a mysterious electronic brain.

Why do FLOSS developers keep ranting?

Many of us do FLOSS coding for the ultimate glory of just doing it. Learning, filling empty days with something to do or simply because they need to feel important for somebody else. Here comes the problem.

My opinion on OpenSolaris, Oracle and all open source Sun software

http://blog.hydrasystemsllc.com

Well, it has been quite a week, last week. Not too long after the OpenSolaris Governing Board issued an ultimatum to Oracle and closely following the unveiling of the Illumos project, Oracle officially announced (in a memo to internal employees) that they will be leaving OpenSolaris behind. To most (including myself) this is not at all surprising.
