People who use and promote free software cite various reasons for their choice, but do those reasons tell the whole story? If, as a community, we want free software to continue to grow in popularity, especially in the mainstream, we should understand better the true reasons for choosing it—especially our own.

The article says that the practical value of software freedom can vary greatly depending on the software and the circumstances. No example cases are cited.

Software Freedom has a such a large practical value in so many cases that it is misleading to say that there is a great variance in its practical value.

The article suggests that there are "true reasons" for choosing to run Free Software, as if some people are fooling themselves with untrue reasons. I guess this is the kind of crazy stuff that the field of behavioural economics comes up with.

Freedom really is the reason why I use Free Software.
