Chani Armitage has been hacking on ZUI for KDE 4.1. It ’s far from complete, but it’s at least becoming something you can actually use now. Keyboard shortcuts can be used to navigate it quickly and clicking an activity containment will make it the active one. She also added an option for removing activities.

Marble in KDE 4.1 will support OpenStreetMap
OpenStreetMap is a free editable map of the whole world. Marble, a virtual desktop globe application and widget for KDE desktop, will support OpenStreetMap in KDE 4.1. Once you start Marble and select "OpenStreetMap" as a theme then Marble will directly start to download OpenStreetMap tiles from the OpenStreetMap server.

Magnatune music store donated $1155.70 to Amarok
A year and a half ago, the excellent Linux music player Amarok added extensive support for Magnatune. The programmer, Nikolaj Hald Nielsen, did this on his own initiative, simply because he thought it'd be a neat thing for his favorite music player to have, and because he liked Magnatune's business philosophy.

Edubuntu is a customized version of Ubuntu aimed at children in educational environments. According to the distributions homepage, Edubuntu is "Linux for Young Human Beings." That works out well for me, since I have three of those in my house. I homeschool my children and use Edubuntu on a couple of our computers.

Canonical CEO Mark Shuttleworth has been telling Reuters that Sun is in the process of certifying Ubuntu on some of its low-end and mid-size hardware. The code it’s certifying is Hardy Heron, the Ubuntu 8.04 rev that’s due out later this month. Sun told the wire service that it’s making sure its Java programming language etc work with Heron.
