The Free Software Movement WAS heard at the ESF in Malmö
Representing the Free Software Foundation Europe at ESF, my impression was that many people either already were or became really interested in Free Software at the forum. In addition to informing hundreds of enthusiastic NGO's about the philosophy, we were able to make valuable connection with Free Software activists from other cities and countries. Free Software was mentioned as an important part of a free information infrastructure in several seminars, and spontaneous workshops were held on the issue.
It should also be noted that the article at thelocal.se, to which this post links, did not mention Free Software at all, and the headline is as such a bit misleading. That thelocal.se does not mention Free Software in an article on ESF should not be read as suggesting that it wasn't an important aspect of ESF. There were hundreds of themes discussed at the forum, and only a small part of those were mentioned in the article.
