I thought it would be interesting for the open source crowd to get my initial reaction to my explorations with Windows Vista. You know, see how (or if) it stands up to Linux. It was a hard pill to swallow for me. It might be a equally as hard for you. Let’s find out. Shall we?

Missing the point

I agree that the most popular GNU/Linux distros are easier to use than Windows Vista, but this is rather missing the point. The main reason why Vista is bad isn't just that the user interface is over-complicated, but that it contains nasty behind the scenes features specifically designed to restrict what the user can or can't do with his or her computer (DRM). In short a computer running Vista isn't really working for you (although superficially that may appear to be the case) it's working for someone else, who may not have your best interests at heart and who can force stuff to be installed onto your machine without your permission or knowledge.

I would advise against people from the FOSS community doing reviews like this, since even mildly negative articles still give Vista some degree of credibility or acceptability. Unwittingly you could become part of the Microsoft PR machine.
