Does GNU/Linux need to run Windows apps? This question resurfaced last week, when the media noticed that Google has been contributing heavily to the Wine project, which develops a compatibility layer on GNU/Linux for running Windows applications.
There's no doubt that Linux—particularly Ubuntu—is a killer operating system full of excellent apps, but for about a million reasons, you're stuck running Windows as your main operating system. We understand, these things happen. But what about all those killer Linux apps you've left behind when you decided to live the Windows life?
I noticed some performance problems when I was running two virtual machines simultaneously (a la VMWare Server. When I began looking into this I discovered VMWare was only allowing 1.8 GB of RAM usage for my virtual machines.
