I have to disagree..
The future of Linux is, was, and will continue to be "Freedom"!
Google does NOT own Linux, and nor does Canonical, nor Redhat, nor Novell, nor IBM.
Imho, we do not need to make Linux the most incredible OS in the universe in order to challenge Microsoft. Although, imho, Linux has already become the best OS ever, so basically all we need to do is continue to make it even better, and I'm not at all against that. In fact applaud that!
And, imho, competing against each other (e.g: Ubuntu v.s. Chrome OS, Fedora v.s. Ubuntu,... KDE v.s. Gnome... and all there stupid comparisons.. no offense) is NOT the way to make an even better Linux distro. Freedom, means collaboration, freedom means sharing, and competing against each other is not the right interpretation of "Freedom".
However, the goal that should always be at the top of our priorities, is to protect the freedom of Linux in specific, and all other free software in general.
"Freedom of technology" is the only weapon can use against Microsoft, and NOT technology itself!
"The Freedom of Linux" is Microsoft's biggest nightmare, NOT the technology behind Linux.
