In that post, he talked about how he would love to see another cold war between Linux and Windows. To put it bluntly, I simply disagree with the post.

Not far enough

I agree with many aspects of this evaluation, but it doesn't go far enough.

The idea that the cold war with M$ is a fun thing with which to distract ourselves might appeal to gamers, but it overlooks the true reality that M$ is deadly serious about this and fully intends to destroy us, completely.

A common misconception is that M$ is just another big US company, doing what big US companies do.

M$ intends to be far bigger than that and we need to take a historical perspective to see the true picture.

A simplistic view would compare M$ to the robber barons, who put chains across roads and rivers and charged outrageous tolls on all passing trade.

While there are many points in common with the robber barons, the true beginning of the M$ business philosophy can be traced back to the British East India Company which established an absolute monopoly that involved much of a mighty empire.

Many wars were fought to maintain that total monopoly and millions lost their lives through conflicts and starvation.

In the 20th century, John D Rockefeller updated the same deadly monopoly business philosophy, and applied it in the US.

John D worshipped monopoly and regarded all competition as "evil".

The M$ corporation is very much founded on the principles of John D Rockefeller and the internal emails that can be viewed at Boycott Novell show a positive delight being taken at the destruction of every "competitor".

In John D/M$ monopoly terms, "competitors are evil" and their destruction should be celebrated with great satisfaction.

Everyone will have noticed that M$ have taken to calling Free Software their "competitors", lately.
