WriteType 1.2.130 is now available! WriteType is a word-processor designed for schools to help young students write better. It gives students who have a hard time writing an easier approach in putting their ideas on paper. The new release makes it even easier for students to succeed!

After several months of development, it is finally time to introduce the world to WriteType. WriteType is an application designed to aid young students in writing and typing on the computer. It offers text completion to make touch typing more efficient.

This summer, my Vietnamese Immersion Students at the American International School will spend about three weeks learning how to touch type in my computer class with Tux Typing, an open source typing tutorial program.

AbiWord is a free opensource word processing program like Microsoft Word or Openoffice. Abiword is a light weight multi-platform word processor and is rapidly becoming a state of the art Word Processor, with lots of features useful for your daily work, personal needs, or for just some good old typing fun.

Two days ago Microsoft issued a press release heralding its plans to take over universities with its Windows-oriented, Live-branded offerings, which typically lock down students and bind them to Microsoft while they still are young. For background about this, see this older post.

Marvell announced its intent to deliver a $100, Android-ready tablet computer built around a 1GHz Armada 600 series processor. Aimed at students, the "Moby" will offer WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, an FM receiver, and Adobe Flash compatibility, the company says.

AbiWord, my long-time favorite open source word processor, is out with a new version 2.6, including many useful new features.
