For the past six years or so, my office productivity suite of choice has been OpenOffice.org. In that time, I've watched the suite progress slowly but steadily toward the goal of being "just as good" as Microsoft Office.

Now, more than ever
Because there's such a large proportion of us who don't trust "cloud" computing as far as we can spit it, there'll always be a strong demand for a Free stand-alone Open Office.
Note: Open Office hasn't been "aiming" for Office's tailights since about OO 2.3 because it's been right alongside it. After OO 3.00, I suspect Office will be aiming for Open Office's tailights.
