Easier Solution

Your guide is very good but somewhat out dated. With the soon to be released Hardy Heron ampache can be installed as easy as

1. Install ubuntu server edition
2. sudo apt-get install mysql-server phpmyadmin ampache
all dependencies will be drawn in automatically such as
apache2-mpm-prefork
libapache2-mod-php5
php5-mysql
etc, etc...
3. Setup your mysql user account with phpmyadmin
4. Point browser to http://localhost/ampache and setup ampache per the instructions provided on the web interface.

There are additional HOWTO guides for ampache on the web some of the better one's (not to say your's is not a good one, just a little long and complicated for new users)

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ampache

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=546007&highlight=ampache+the+ea...

http://trac.ampache.org/wiki/InstallBasics
There are install instruction for FreeBSD, Slackware, Debian/Ubuntu
and yes even (yuck) Windows

The packages on this site are created by the current Debian Maintainer of Ampache. These packages are linda and lintian clean which means they conform to Debian/Ubuntu policy.

This is where you can get the latest bleeding edge packages of Ampache for Ubuntu

I hope this helps someone
