Sabayon 5.4 E17 is one of several “Experimental Spins” of Sabayon Linux released just this week. It is based on E17, version 0.17 of Enlightenment, a multi-platform stacking window manager and desktop environment. This is the first time in more than two years that I have reviewed a distribution using the Enlightenment desktop environment.

Lightweight desktops have a multitude of uses, on netbooks, for mobile devices, for older hardware, for users with limited requirements of their systems, for connecting to applications in the cloud, and for bare knuckled programmers who prefer to work closer to the metal.

After 2 years of of development, Elive 2.0 landed under the codename "Topaz". The new release comes with many improvments. Elive "Topaz" is based on debian and use Enlightenment 17 as a default desktop .The authors of Elive claim that it offers great visual appear even with minimal hardware resources.

Samsung may be sponsoring the Enlightenment window manager project and Enlightenment may be a component in Samsung's bada mobile operating system. The Enlightenment project, which has been around since 1997, announced today that it was working with a "top-tier electronics maker" which "produces millions of mobile phones, televisions, sound systems and more".

moonOS 3.0 is based on Ubuntu 9.04 and uses the Enlightenment window manager. The moonOS 3.0 release includes many improvements making this distro even faster and easier to use than previous versions. Geubuntu 7.10 was released last Thursday and a couple of people asked me to take a look at it. As the distribution's logo hints, it's an Ubuntu derivative that uses Enlightenment E17 for the desktop environment.
