Collaboration is awesome: the Kongoni hackfest report

http://silentcoder.co.za

"So, Saturday was the grand Kongoni hackfest. We had about 5 people on-site and a bunch more online, and people were hacking code. It was quite an event, one of those extra hot Cape Town days with a bunch of people (interestingly – men and women in roughly equal amounts) sitting around a coffee table with their laptops and hacking on code files – it just worked, beautifully..."

When One Linux Project Wins, All Linux Triumphs

http://ldn.linuxfoundation.org

To say there was a lot of Linux news coming out of CES last week was an understatement. Runs Linux."

I have been a linux guy ever cince the pre 1.0 release days. I cut my teeth after the home PC on a real os with a login to a local BBS as an admin on a Unix machine, a Cromemco running Cromix. But about 5 years ago Linux became "unusable" for me at home.

10 years on: free software wins, but you have nowhere to install it

http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com

I am typing this as I am finally connected in shell to my Android phone. The prompt reminds me that it's based on the Linux kernel (it's free), the Dalvik virtual machine (it's free), and free libraries. Millions of Android devices are shipped every day, each one is a Linux system. Today, it's phone.
