Success in the context of the free software movement is the proliferation and persistence of free software, and ultimately the death of proprietary software.
When this happen, we have achieved the economic and political pinnacle of society, market anarchy.(not to be confused with chaos and corny capitalism)
So yeah, market share is directly proportional to the success of GNU/Linux.
