KOfficeSource GmbH will offer professional services around the open source OpenDocument-based KOffice office suite. KOfficeSource GmbH will allow KOffice to be used in companies and organizations that demand high quality support and training for OpenDocument deployment. KOfficeSource GmbH will initially offer the following services to the market: migration and conversion to OpenDocument, consulting around the OpenDocument Format, training on OpenDocument and KOffice, customization of KOffice, custom programming.

One of the release goals of the next-generation KDE office suite, KOffice 2, is to make the package run on Windows and Mac OS X in addition to Debian Linux.

While the industry is distracted by the ongoing tussle between Microsoft and OpenOffice.org over document formats, the KDE project is quietly preparing the next generation of its own office suite, KOffice, for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X.

The KDE Community proudly presents the second Beta release for KDE 4.0. This release marks the beginning of the feature freeze and the stabilization of the current codebase. Simultaneously the KOffice developers have released their third Alpha release, marking significant improvements in this innovative office suite.

Although KOffice has its admirers, in many people's minds, it runs a poor second to OpenOffice.org. KDE’s KOffice has just reached Alpha 7 and it revolves around OpenDocument format. KDE deserves some praises for refusing to touch OOXML with its the anti-FOSS poison pill (RAND+OSP), in addition to the impossibility of implementing something that nobody else will ever implement, not even Microsoft.

Today I read an interview from the KOffice developers where they imply that they will not support the ooXML file format. This sparked a slashdot story, the gist of which was that KDE is principled and GNOME has gone over to the dark side because of their sponsership of Jody Goldberg's attemts to improve the ooXML specification. ie KDE supports ODF (Yay!), GNOME supports ooXML, (boo hiss!)

This whole discussion is rather a rather clueless storm in a teacup and misses many different points.
