FSDaily shouldn't be endorsing Internet Explorer, or really any other browser. Instead, it should be made to comply with XHTML standards to the extent possible. That will help it display correctly in any modern browser. As is, the front page has 214 errors.
[Editor: FSDaily doesn't endorse Internet Explorer in any way, and we are working on the XHTML errors which were "inherited" from the template we used - thanks for the pointer!]

I agree. We shouldn't go out of our way to support IE and we should use open standards.

I agree... this is what Jeff was asking in the other topic I think he just worded the wrong way...
but we DO need to take the mention to Iexplorer from the site.. regardless if the browser is technically supported or not.. we don't want to give free propaganda..
Thanks.

I agree with all this, if it does
I agree with all this, if it does indeed mention IE somewhere in the site it should be taken off.

@ all of you: OMG, Firefox is available
@ all of you: OMG, Firefox is available for windows too! Does that mean the Mozilla organization is "supporting" Windows? Are you gonna go beat your drum on their site telling them they should stop making Firefox for Windows. They are just trying to get the software to as many people as possible.
FSDaily are just trying to get the free software message to as many people as possible.
Are you trying to attract new users to free software or drive them away?

@activist: that's a pligg thing
@activist: that's a pligg thing not an FSDaily thing. Maybe you should go talk to the people at pligg.

@ Jimbob: you got a point there...
@ Jimbob: you got a point there... but Firefox is not supporting any of their software other than running on top of the OS so this is good because we invade them not the other way around, is not exactly the same situation I agree that people from all OS's should come here, of course I do.. but lets be careful in how are we going to educate the new users... we should be the ones giving example for some ethics, we can show them the technical details but the ethical ones are very important also.. but overall you are right.

@jimbob: you are right. That information
@jimbob: you are right. That information is there by default. To be honest we only got this site up and running about a week ago. We still have lots of work to do on it. We don't even have an about page or contact info. It was all very rushed because we wanted it out at the same time as issue 18. We wanted to make sure everyone new about it otherwise it would fizzle and die out. It looks like we have enough users to sustain it now so we can focus on getting some of the other details ironed out.
This site has all the same staff as FSM does. So, if you need to contact us with suggestions, advice, queries, etc., please feel free to use the same details as with FSM.

To address the issue being raised
To address the issue being raised here: we in no way promote the use of IE. However, we do want to make sure its vast number of users can view our site and read free software news. There's not much point showing the light to only those who have already seen it.
Hopefully, through our site, some of these IE users will be *en*couraged to make the change to free software. We want to make them feel welcome in our community and then we can educate them and hope that they will see the value in switching.
I hope fsdaily's current community can do the same. Please be aware that negativity is never a positive thing.

I'm not only going to work to attract
I'm not only going to work to attract new users, I'm going to drive them to my bbq, hand them a notebook and a beer, and show them that you don't even have to settle for Firefox when there's IE/Firefox killers out there like Konqueror - *the* killer app. :-)

Why not do both? Can't you use alternative IE only style sheets using browser detection?

Hi, As explained in the updated
Hi,
As explained in the updated entry, we do not support Internet Explorer. We took out the instructions about Internet Explorer from the user's page.
As for the CSS, I fixed the first 2 errors. We now only have 212 to go... AS you can imagine, it's a lot of work. It's mainly due to the fact that the pligg's default template doesn't have self-closing tabs nor
I forecast it will take us quite a while to fix all of the problems, but it's mostly manual labour.
Bye,
Merc.
