After the success I had with my previous tutorial about how to run Windows and a Linux distribution together on the same computer (with a single monitor, keyboard and mouse and no other magic tricks required), I decided to improve the installation method with an extremely easy-to-use one. The idea is the same as in the previous guide, to obtain a single desktop with two completely different operating systems: Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux!

Linux fans love to debate the pros and cons of myriad technologies, but none more than operating systems -- and you can bet the usual winner isn't based in Redmond or Cupertino. This week the question was raised once again on Slashdot, spurred by a Linux Magazine comparison of Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon and Mac OS X Leopard and drawing well nigh 600 comments by Friday. Which operating system is King of the Jungle is a question that no doubt will continue to be debated as long as a jungle exists, but that doesn't mean the debates can't get heated now, too.

No matter how hard you try, unless you've committed yourself to giving up any and all Windows based applications, you tend to find yourself stuck in a situation where you must emulate at least one of these applications inside of Linux. This is where emulators such as Virtual Box and Wine come in handy to help you bridge that divide.

Ubuntu is an extremely popular Linux distribution. As usual, the servers got clogged with traffic from all the users trying to download Ubuntu all at once. After letting my Ubuntu installation sit for a while, I decide to write a review of it now.

GNU’s wget command line program for downloading is very popular, and not without reason. While you can use it simply to retrieve a single file from a server, it is much more powerful than that and offers many more features.

I have been a big supporter of Ubuntu over the last few years and I have been using Ubuntu for many, many releases. Another review of Mandriva Linux 2008, this time from a blog called The Tech Journal. It has a reasonably in-depth look at the GNOME and KDE versions of the One single-CD edition, and comes out with an 8.5 rating: "For ease of use, package availability and being just a cool system to work and play on you cant go wrong with Mandriva."

Ubuntu has become the most popular Linux distribution for new Linux users. It's easy to install, easy to use, and usually "just works." But moving to a different operating system can be confusing, no matter how well-designed it is. Here's a list of tips that might save you some time while you're getting used to Ubuntu.
