Wind River and PrismTech announced a jointly developed "Spectra SDR" software-defined radio (SDR) middleware platform for both military and public sectors, compatible with Wind River's Linux and VxWorks distributions. Meanwhile, Wind River launched a blog feature, starting with President Ken Klein explaining how Wind River is a "firewalled subsidiary" of Intel, committed to independence.

The LiMo (Linux Mobile) Foundation has endorsed a new Wholesale Applications Community (WAC) industry group established by mobile carriers to devise a common app format. The WAC format will build upon two web-based mobile widget standards: the Open Mobile Terminal Project's BONDI and the Joint Innovation Lab's JIL initiative.

Verizon last month joined the LiMo Foundation, an organization that advocates for open mobile phone handset technology using Mobile Linux. As a core member of LiMo, Verizon hopes to lower the development costs of mobile phone designs across the industry.

LiMo Foundation and GNOME Foundation today announced a key partnership with the objective of collaborating closely on open source innovation. Starting immediately, LiMo Foundation will become a member of GNOME Foundation’s Advisory Board and GNOME Foundation will become an Industry Liaison Partner for LiMo Foundation.
