Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5 (RHEL) is now available in early beta, providing users of Red Hat's flagship operating system with bug fixes and an early look at some new features, too.

Red Hat today officially announced the beta availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 (RHEL), which in my view is a lot more than a typical point release. Sure we're all waiting for the big RHEL 6 release, but there are some major changes in RHEL 5.4.

I came across the following from the ext3-users mailing list. The poor user was stuck on a never-updated RHEL 3 production server and running into kernel panic problems. He was advised to try updating to the latest kernel rpm from Red Hat, but he didn’t feel he could do that.
