Mozilla Corp.'s Firefox 3.0 browser uses memory much more efficiently than its rivals, according to an independent tester who wrote a memory-monitoring utility to track usage by Firefox, Internet Explorer (IE), Flock, Opera and Safari.

Finally Firefox is improving its own memory flaws and it's getting better than IE and Opera. Due to this improvements, Mozilla is aiming mobile devices.

Mozilla Corp. said on Friday that it has added the fruits of a two-month JavaScript turbopower project to the latest preview of its next browser, Firefox 3.1, which boosts some benchmark speeds by nearly 40 times over those of Firefox 3.0.

Mozilla Corp. yesterday patched 10 vulnerabilities, half of them marked "critical," in its open-source browser as it updated Firefox to Version 2.0.0.13. The new Mozilla Messaging Inc. spin-off, however, was not able to provide a matching update to its Thunderbird e-mail client, which shares five of the Firefox flaws that were fixed.

Mozilla Corp.'s next update to Firefox will sport several new safer surfing features, the company's chief of security said Wednesday, but users won't see the most important changes.

Numerous users of the latest version of the Firefox web browser (3.0.4 released yesterday) are reporting memory issues causing the browser to freeze up or crash. Firefox 2 was plagued with memory management issues, but users had thought Mozilla had put these behind them with Firefox 3.

Mozilla Corp. today announced the winners of its third “Extend Firefox” contest, an annual competition that recognizes the year’s best Firefox add-ons.

This year’s contest, which launched in March and brought in more than 100 entries, focused on add-ons that took advantage of Mozilla’s newest open-source browser, Firefox 3.0.

This week, the Mozilla Foundation released its 2006 financial statement, telling the world that Google provides 85 per cent of the revenue for the foundation and its Mozilla Corp. subsidiary.
