The configuration of OpenLDAP got a bit (more) complicated. cn=config is still used, but when installing the packages from the repositories only a skeleton configuration of openldap is installed. You're not asked anymore to provide a password when the package is installed and issuing the "dpkg-reconfigure slapd" only resets openldap to the skeleton configuration.

The first alpha release of Ubuntu 8.10, codenamed Intrepid Ibex, was made available on Saturday. This preliminary Intrepid prerelease includes updated packages, a new version of the Linux kernel, and an experimental new visual style.

I installed Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) Alpha 6 on both of my laptops over the weekend, and it looks very good. In the original announcement of the Intrepid Ibex development, Ubuntu spoke of giving priority to "pervasive internet access", and it appears to me that they have made good progress on that.

I found Intrepid to be a fast and stable release, yet I experienced some minor issues that keep it from absolute perfection.

After having a quite uneventful upgrade to Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex (time for a change), I’s happy to notice, that Intrepid Ibex ships the new OpenSSH version 5.1 which has one little feature, I really fell in love with: visual host keys.
