I remember when I've compiled my first kernel, it was on Debian whit his debian-way. Some years ago, but I still remember ... My first kernel! :-)

Nice but does not mention anything
Nice but does not mention anything about the 'src' group. To a casual user it might give the impression that the all commands should be run as root.
