I have used Puppy in the past, over a year ago, and I thought it was OK…just OK. Now you have to realize that Puppy is a small form distribution which is designed to use minimail resources and at the same time provide all of the functions that a Desktop user would want. All that said, when Puppy 4.1 came out I decided to look at it again….I am glad I did.

With the recent release of Puppy Linux 4.00, developer Barry Kauler and his team have provided a lightweight but functional Linux operating system. The latest version, V4.0 RC3, of Damn Small Linux was released today and it is really very small indeed. Described as a 50Mb mini-desktop oriented Linux OS, DSL is actually small enough to fit and boot from a business card CD as a live Linux distribution.

Some distributions of the open-source operating system are bloated, but Puppy Linux, Knoppix, SLAX, NimbleX, and -- yes -- Damn Small Linux will get you up and running fast.
