Xubuntu is a member of the Ubuntu family, furnished with the lightweight Xfce desktop environment, on top of the standard Ubuntu stack. So, that means that it should be as easy and convenient to use as standard Ubuntu, right?

Lightweight Desktops are like that
You cant compare XFCE with GNOME or KDE at the same level, since they serve a different purpose.
If you are looking for LIGHT desktop environments, then you won't find any other more elegant and usable than XFCE.
It's a trade-off. LXDE/fluxbox/wmii they are all even more lightweight but also much less usable for the casual user.
Also, in my personal opinion, the dark Xubuntu theme looks much better than Kubuntu and Ubuntu ones. But I know there's some people who dont like dark backgrounds.
