So considering that compiz++ is now master and my patches haven’t been maintained in a while, a lot of you might be wondering what is going on with input redirection and MPX.

The Linux utility awk can create output redirection for data you want to save and it can use input redirection from commands or respond interactively with users.

In late 2008 we witnessed the release of Compiz++, a rewrite of the Compiz core in C++ plus other invasive work in order to improve this compositing window manager. With Compiz++ being a branch of Compiz and various other developers working on their own branches, the future of Compiz was unclear, however, today it has been cleared up some.

Over the weekend I played more with Compiz 0.7.6 on Ubuntu. Here’s two more cool new plugins and how to set them up. Reader Exsecrabilus requested that I write about the unique new StackSwitch window switcher for Compiz. StackSwitch tilts your desktop and windows down like a table, and flips up the selected window.

So, I figured that I should publish these before murphy’s law ensures that I either have a 1% chance of living the next day, or that the Australian Government censors me.

Yesterday we shared that Compiz++ and Nomad would be merged back into Compiz and today there are even more announcements coming out of the Compiz camp. With Compiz not having a clear road-map, a Compiz council has been established to begin charting the future of this compositing window manager.

In addition to the fairly common forms of input/output redirection the shell recognizes something called process substitution. Although not documented as a form of input/output redirection, its syntax and its effects are similar.

Computers may be assiged a static IP address or assigned one dynamically. Typically servers and institutions will use a static IP which will not change each time u get connected. Workstation will use Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) for IP address assignment. It is more easily to find a system if the IP address does not change and is static.

Users of Compiz, a window manager that provides pretty visual effects, know that a lot of those effects are just for fun...Personally, I am most concerned with the Compiz plugins that add functionality to my desktop. There are plenty of those too. I am going to outline some of my favorites and most useful.
