We already knew that Firefox nightly beats Chrome in speed, the gap is getting wider with the latest Firefox builds (3.2a1pre). While Google Chrome uses webkit as a layout engine it uses it’s own javascript engine called V8. On the other hand webkit developers are quietly tweaking away its SquirrelFish engine for javascript speed increase.

The Khronos Group today released the final WebGL 1.0 specification to enable hardware-accelerated 3D graphics in HTML5 Web browsers without the need for plug-ins. WebGL defines a JavaScript binding to OpenGL ES 2.0 to allow rich 3D graphics within a browser on any platform supporting the industry-standard OpenGL or OpenGL ES graphics APIs.

1. Nighty Tester Tools - It fixes extension compatibility (makes them all work with the latest firefox version), and adds a few extras useful to those that regularly test nightly builds of Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird and Toolkit Seamonkey (umong other things).

2. Better GReader - This extension is for Google Reader, and it Compiles some of the best Greasemonkey user scripts and Stylish skins for Google Reader into one convenient interface.

Midori is a GTK-based browser with a clean interface that resembles the one of Google Chrome, using the WebKit rendering engine, and offering plenty of the usual features browsers like Firefox or Chrome ship with.

Google Chrome has now eclipsed Mozilla Firefox in the speed category. However, I still use Firefox as my main web browser because it is still better than Chrome in certain areas.But just recently, I tried a few tweaks that significantly improved the speed of Firefox making it a little bit snappier than the latest version of Google Chrome when loading webpages.

The Mozilla people have started producing free software builds of firefox; "compiled with branding, logos and talk-back removed."
