The past couple days I've been interested in the fastest gtk-engine-theme available to load on my Ubuntu box. I just simply didn't want fast but as elegant as I could get. My search did not have to go far after discovering a couple articles and speed tests that still had BlueCurve theme engine as the fastest and by far the most elegant considering the speed increase.

A couple weeks ago I wrote about NoSQL and provided a short overview of the landscape of non-relational databases. One that has become increasingly popular is Apache CouchDB, so I’d like to spend a couple weeks digging into it a bit and talking about why it’s so interesting. Before I do, it’s worth noting that Ubuntu 9.10 was just released and uses CouchDB under the hood.

For the past couple of weeks I have been having some fun testing out the latest version of Ubuntu the increasingly popular Linux. The advantage it has over many other OS's out there is it's lightweight footprint.

WorksWithU reported a couple weeks ago on new features in Ubuntu 9.10, like kernel mode setting and GRUB 2, that are likely to please geeks.  But Ubunti 9.10 (codenamed Karmic Koala) will also sport changes aimed at traditional users.  Here&'s a look at a few of them.

With Ubuntu 9.04, otherwise known as the Jaunty Jackalope, set to be released in less than three weeks, WorksWithU will be publishing some posts about what the latest and greatest version of Ubuntu will mean to different groups of users.  Today, we begin with a look at the new features that Jaunty brings to traditional desktops.

As you may have heard, Mark Shuttleworth announced his vision for Ubuntu 10.10 a few days ago.  Without prejudicing the more pressing release of Ubuntu 10.04 in a couple weeks, here are some thoughts on what Shuttleworth said, and what we can expect from Ubuntu 10.10 in October 2010.

A few weeks ago, we took a look at how Ubuntu use varied by country.  I'm still on a bit of a demographic kick, so I decided to do some research on another pertinent topic: the median age of Ubuntu users.  Here's what I found.

Firefox 3.5 has been released several weeks ago, but some Ubuntu 9.04 users out there may still be using the older 3.0 version. They should not expect that they will get an automatic update since this latest Firefox release will not be officially included in Ubuntu until 9.10 "Karmic Koala".
