The first public version of Gwibber 2.0 has been released on the Gwibber daily-builds PPA. Gwibber 2.0 sports a completely redesigned interface, simple 'account' configuration wizards and more.

Gwibber is an open source microblogging framework and desktop client for GNOME developed with Python and GTK+. The Gwibber backend is a stand-alone daemon that manages updates and retrieves stream data from social networks.

Gwibber currently has support for the following services:

* Twitter
* Identi.ca/Laconi.ca
* FriendFeed
* Facebook
* Jaiku
* Digg
* Flickr
* BrightKite
* Qaiku

I met Ryan Paul at UDS last may and I must say I was star struck (I am star struck most of the time at UDS anyhow). As a badass editor at arstechnica and the man who started gwibber I thought it would be nice to interview for OMG! Ubuntu!

Everyone by now has seen the world famous mockups of what Ubuntu apparently should look like. The problem is that what is shown in those mockups is not yet possible with the current way gnome works.
