The Ubuntu developers have announced the availability of the second alpha release of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, code named "Lucid Lynx". The latest development milestone is the second of three planned alpha releases, which will be followed by two beta releases and then a release candidate.

From its outset Ubuntu project has been committed to a regular release cycle and has managed to deliver on that commitment without fail. Python 3000 (a.k.a. "Py3k", and released as Python 3.0) is a new version of the language that is incompatible with the 2.x line of releases. The language is mostly the same, but many details, especially how built-in objects like dictionaries and strings work, have changed considerably, and a lot of deprecated features have finally been removed.

X.Org 7.5 with X Server 1.7 will be arriving months late once it's released after failing to meet the original April release schedule and then failed twice with two more proposed releases during the summer. The first alpha release of Ubuntu 8.04 (codenamed Hardy Heron) was scheduled to be released today, but the official release has been pushed back until tomorrow. However, a preliminary CD image of this first alpha release for Ubuntu 8.04 LTS has surfaced today on the Internet.
