If you have a fondness for old arcade games and want to play them again, try the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME), a free emulator that lets you recreate the look and feel of old arcade game systems in software. While it's written for Windows, you can run this open source application under Linux.

Scott Jarvis sent us info on his just released Puppy Arcade 5, a Puppy Linux flavor with a retro video game emulation based on TurboPup Xtreme (arguably the fastest Puppy derivative).

Zaz is an multi-platform (Windows and Linux) arcade action puzzle game where the objective is to get rid of all incoming balls by rearranging their order. The games seems really addictive, so be aware! :-)

It offers 6 new and improved tracks, a new game mode ('Follow the Leader'), new Grand Prix, new menu, some new music, and translations into German, French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian and Swedish. The new tracks and game modes need to be unlocked: you have to fulfill a challenge in order to use them. If all challenges are done, a preview of the upcoming skidding support can be tested.

Puppy Arcade is one of the few Linux distro’s that Openbytes tries to keep following. Since version 5, Puppy Arcade has not only been a favorite with friends and colleagues, but also has a home on a few of my machines around the house that would otherwise be obsolete.

If you played ClanBomber, you may have noticed that it is no longer maintained. Granatier is a ClanBomber clone which in turn is a Bomberman clone. Currently Granatier implements everything from Clanbomber, except the AI. The default ClanBomber maps are also included. Granatier will be released on February 9 as part of KDE Software Compilation 4.4
