There is a vast number of tools available for Linux that provide the end user with access to a rich multimedia experience that is both satisfying, but also useful. But what are some of these programs and how can they benefit you? Let's look at each of them and what they offer for you.

Songbird is a media player built on Mozilla that is often described as the Firefox of media players because of the growing number of plugins and feathers (skins) that can be applied to the player.

"The Songbird media player is a cross-platform media player that is based on the gecko browser engine. Songbird enables you to use add-ons and skins feathers just like you can in your Firefox web browser, and combines the the most useful parts of the browser into a fully-featured music player.

One of the many perks of being a Linux user is that you have plenty of excellent software to choose from. This is especially true if you are in search for an essential application like a media player because there are definitely loads of options.

VLC (VideoLan) is a cross-platform universial media player. It supports a variety of different inputs, including DVD, VCD, MPEG, AVI, WMV, MP4, and MOV. It has full subtitle support, as well as built-in video filters. There are skins for VLC available at the developer website.
