The KDE community is proud to announce the location of next year's Akademy: Tampere, Finland. Akademy is the yearly world conference held by the KDE community to celebrate the Free Software desktop and work towards the future of KDE.

The KDE development team, gathered at the aKademy event in Glasgow, Scotland on July 4 announced the immediate availability of the second alpha release of the K Desktop Environment v. 4.0. The eight-day-long aKademy continues through July 7 at the University of Strathclyde.

During the final days of the Gran Canaria Desktop Summit, the fourth edition of Akademy-es was held in the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Akademy-es is the sister of Akademy aimed at Spanish speakers.

The list of 86 recorded bugfixes include improvements in the Kate editor and Kontact email and groupware client, resulting from recent coding sprints the respective teams had. KDE's development platform has received a number of updates which affect multiple applications.

KDE Spain is organizing Akademy-es 2011, the annual meeting of KDE users and contributors in Barcelona, Spain from May 20th through May 22nd. Akademy-es is an important event in the KDE calendar. Attendance and the technical quality of papers have increased significantly during each of the previous events.

The annual technical conference for the open source KDE desktop project, known as aKademy, will have a special buzz this year as developers from around the world prepare the fourth-generation release which promises all the glitz of Windows Vista and Mac OS X.

The organizing team of Akademy 2010 is looking for sponsors to help make the annual world summit of the KDE community a success. Akademy 2010 will take place in Tampere, Finland from July 3rd to July 10th and is organized by KDE e.V. and COSS, the Finnish Centre for Open Source Solutions.

This month the KDE Community announced the immediate availability of KDE 4.0. This significant release marks both the end of the long and intensive development cycle leading up to KDE 4.0 and the beginning of the KDE 4 era.

In July 2013, Akademy — the KDE community summit — will host the Qt Contributor Summit (QtCS) in Bilbao, Spain. QtCS is THE gathering of the Qt Project contributor community. It will take place July 15th and 16th in the middle of the KDE Akademy conference week (13-19 July). By co-hosting, KDE and the Qt Project will increase their existing collaboration even further.
