" We talked a few days ago about the Compiz and Beryl mergence and the name of the newly born project resulted from this fusion, Compiz Fusion. The Compiz Fusion project tries to bring us all the latest 3D technologies, such as Cube reflection, paint fire on your desktop and a lot of new eye candy animations."
Some Compiz Fusion effects are unsupported and are not usually easily available from software repositories. I installed three well-known, but experimental, Compiz plugins: atlantis2, freewins, and screensaver.
This guide has specifically been written for the latest version of Compiz and Compiz Fusion, which can be found in e.g. Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. Although this guides mentions the default options in Hardy from time to time, it is mostly distribution-independent and you should be able to use it on every Linux install.
Since the release of Ubuntu 8.04, Compiz Fusion has been updated to version 0.7.6. Been eying the new cylinder and sphere deformations effects or other new plugins? It's not hard to upgrade Ubuntu 8.04's version of Compiz to get the latest and greatest desktop effects.
For the next round of Linux Releases (Ubuntu Gutsy, Fedora 8, OpenSuse 10.3, Mandriva 2008 etc) Compiz Fusion should be installed by default in those releases and with the release date looming not far ahead the time is ripe to give you a preview of what to expect from the latest Compiz Fusion.
A Comprehensive review of Compiz Fusion 0.76 .. In the mid 2007 it was decided to merge Compiz and Beryl projects to release a much better, stable and sophisticated product .. Earlier named Compcomp but later on named Compiz Fusion.
